VEDA

The Vedas, in sanscrit "knowledge" are a large body of texts originating in ancient India. Composed in Vedic Sanskrit, the texts constitute the oldest layer of Sanskrit literature and the oldest scriptures of Hinduism.
S Rathakrishnan estimates the period of Vedas between 1500 BC to around 500 BC but The date has never been fixed probably because they are without beginning and end. The Vedas are eternal.
Vedas have the simplicity and curiosity of a child and the young mind whose thoughts are not yet complicated due to the worldly influence.
The ancient man was quite amazed by the forces of nature like sun, weather, rain, storm etc. These forces are unpredictable and used to have amazing power at their command. Sun gave light and energy, the rain gave water for their crops, and the air gave them oxygen needed for life. They, therefore, called them deva (god) which means “the giver” as they gave the most important things to the man. The Aryans worshipped them as god. Initially, deva also meant “shining” as it included the shining entities like sun, moon, fire, thunderstorm etc.
Ayurveda originated as a part of vedic science, is the upaveda branch of Adharvaveda that contains 114 hymns or formulations for the treatment of diseases. The AtharvaVeda was written the last to create a synthesis between the gods of Aryans and the gods of the local tribes. This Veda consists of the prayers of the gods of the local tribes. Vedas represents the evolution of human thoughts over more than a thousand years.
Ayurveda is well grounded in the physics of the "five elements"; earth, water, fire, air and space- all of which compose the Universe, including the human body.
Ayurveda is composed of two words “Ayu” that means life and “Veda” that means Knowledge or Science, THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LIFE . Ayurveda embraces all aspects of well being of living creatures, physically, mentally and spiritually.

AYURVEDA PULSE READING
Padinjharathara Parameshwaran Vaidyar, having experience of Ayurveda from the age of 11 years, inherited from his father.
Thousands of years ago, Ayurveda described multiple levels of the radial pulse that could be used to interpret the status of the organs and systems of the body as well as the mental and physical constitutions of the individual. Imbalances and potential disease states can be detected in their early stages, giving one the opportunity to correct them before they affect the quality of life. With practice and guidance, one can acquire the proficiency to use this knowledge to heal self and others. Ayurvedic pulse reading tells about the currently active imbalances of Ayurveda Doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It also provides information about 15 subtypes of Ayurveda Doshas.

Pulse reading can be learnt through continuous practice, focus, awareness, and under the guidance of an experienced guru. It is like playing the violin. On striking, each string produces a different musical note. Similarly, an expert pulse reader by touching, pressing, and ‘feeling’ the different combinations of the pulse, is able to diagnose the imbalances within a person’s body.

YOGA
The 10 hours of Yoga course covers various body purification kriyas, various warming up excercises, simple breathing excercises (pranayama) and meditation.
The word yoga derives from the Sanskrit root word "yuj" which, depending upon the context, can have one of two different meanings. One meaning is ‘samadhi’ which is defined as total absorption leading to a fully controlled state of the mind. The other meaning is ‘union’. According to Vyasa, the most authoritative commentator on the sutras, the word yoga means ‘samadhi’ in the current context. In many other systems of philosophy, Vedanta for example, yoga means ‘union’ where it implies the union of the individual self and the supreme consciousness called Brahman.
Often it appears that Yoga is a personal affair, a private conduct of the individual in respect of oneself, for one's own physical health and physiological balance of the system, which no doubt Yoga is. But there is something else about it, without a knowledge of which the emphasis laid on the individual may not bring the real benefit which would be expected by anyone from the practice.
The practice of Yoga is, really, the practice of the art of living.
PRANAYAMA
One of the Five Principles of Yoga is Pranayama or the science of breath control. This is an overview of what Pranayama is and the Breathing Exercises practiced in Yoga.
In Vedantic philosophy, prana is the notion of a vital, life-sustaining force of living beings and vital energy.
Prana was first expounded in the Upanishads, where it is part of the worldly, physical realm, sustaining the body and the mother of thought and thus also of the mind. Prana suffuses all living forms but is not itself the Atman or individual soul. In the Ayurveda, the Sun and sunshine are held to be a source of Prana.
In yoga, breathing is considered a very important process as it is the most vital means of absorbing prana into the body. The shastras explain how prana gives consciousness and life to every creature which breathes. According to Taittiriya, Brahmana and Maitri Upanishads and Shiva Swarodaya, the breath is referred to as the vehicle of Brahman or cosmic consciousness.
The breath has so much importance in human existence that the ancient rishis or seers evolved a complete science around it, just from studying the simple process of respiration. This science, swara yoga, however, should not be confused with pranayama, though both deal with prana. Swara yoga emphasises the analysis of the breath and the significance of different pranic rhythms; whereas, pranayama involves techniques to redirect, store and control prana.
Most of us breathe incorrectly, using only a small part of our lung capacity. Shallow respiration or rapid breathing, as in a stressful situation, builds up stagnant air in the lower regions of the lungs. Also, normal breathing takes place either in the abdomen or in the thorax or chest. By combining the abdominal and thoracic breathing, it is possible to inhale the optimum amount of air into the lungs, and exhale the maximum amount of waste air. According to yoga, this is the way everyone should be breathing.
There are a lot of benefits we can get with the practice of Pranayama; deep steady breathing has a calming effect on both, body and mind, and it's very useful to reduce stress. By controlling the pranas through the practice of pranayama, the restlessness of the mind is automatically controlled.
Pranayama teaches us ways, techniques and practices, that we can apply in our daily life to deepen, stretch and strengthen both our breath and our powers of concentration.
